There are just a few wire connections to be made on the inside of the box that are preventing us from doing the final testing (waiting on some supplies in the mail), but the outside of the electronics are (almost) done! We will be adding a few stickers and instructions to the backside of the box. Bu...

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/imgs/29585/stepper-motors.full.jpg We may be kind of slow on posting updates, but a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes. Lots of ordering of parts to make molds, some manufacturing tests and more. One of the biggest hurdles encountered during the development...

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/imgs/29313/lots-of-computers2.full.jpg In order to lock down a cheaper price on the Dell Computers for the $1600 level reward, I decided to make a purchase now and put it on my credit card. Hopefully those in at the $1600 level all plan on staying in, as I don't want to...

Limit switches are not offered by default on the machine. We will however have a tutorial available so you can install your own, and will make them available as a kit at a very reasonable price. (Our guess would be $20 or so). They are completely optional however.. Machines of this size and power do...

We are definitely going to try to Shellac the machines before shipping. However currently it is Winter here in MN and any kind of painting would take a long time. Thanks for the tip about the EZLOK fasteners. I will order a few and see how well they work. So far the T-nuts have been working very wel...

We have been working on improving our design with a few key design upgrades. Many people have been asking: What makes this design unique? We leave no ideas behind. Our original designs called for extruded aluminum table supports, then we evolved to u-channel aluminum, and then square aluminum. We si...

Update #5: Evolution of the Design: Gantry

We were recently asked about our Gantry design from a backer of our project. He asked about the style of gantry and design process that we went through. We have heard some comments about how our machine seems to be more about form, rather than function. That couldn't be further from the truth. Form ...

We reached our $10,000 goal last night! Thank you everyone so much for supporting this project. We hope that we can go much higher and get more pledges. If we run out of the $1050 rewards we will be putting up a new reward that includes the CNC with electronics, but without the router. Those who hav...

Re: Open Source?

Thanks for the question.

I think the closest we will get to open source will be to make the G-Code for certain parts available to people who have already purchased one of our systems. That way they could make replacement parts out of a different material like HDPE, using their machine.
